For years now, the Software Development Life Cycle, or SDLC for short, has cemented itself as the de-facto process to help build information systems, systems engineering, and software engineering from the ground up by encompassing key phases that can be grouped in planning, implementation.

Alleviating software development complexity is chief among the key best practices of developing software. To that end, using the SDLC process goes a long way in compartmentalizing and breaking down robust tasks, into smaller, more manageable tasks that are easier to measure and achieve. The new seven SDLC phases include planning, analysis, design, development, testing, implementation, and maintenance.
