The Sahara desert is known to be the biggest or the largest desert in the whole of the world. The area of the largest desert is approximately 3,000 miles in total, which comprises of the area of around 800 miles from the east to the west side and along with the same it also comprises of the 1,200 miles of the area of the north to the south side of the earth. However, broadly speaking the total area of the largest desert in the world is somewhere around 3,320,000 square miles, which can also be understood as around 8,600,000 square km. To be more specific about the actual area of the largest desert in the world, so it generally varies according to the place of the desert, which is considered or generally happens to expand and also contracts from time to time. 

In fact, the oceans are also covered on the all the four sides of the Sahara desert. Such as the atlantic ocean is being covered on the west side of the largest desert in the world and the atlas ocean along with the mediterranean sea is known to be covered on the north side of the largest desert in the world. Whereas on the other hand, the red sea is known to be covered to the east side of the sahara desert. In fact, from the south side of the sahara it is the sahel that forms a transitional zone between the Sahara to the north and the belt of humid savannas to the south is covering it. 

The sahara desert has a lot of the brilliant curves and cuts of the shapes such as it has the brilliant as well as the wonderful chotts as well as dayas, which are also very commonly known as the larger oasis along with the brilliant depressions. Moreover, the largest desert of the world also has the beautifully extensive gravel covered plains, which are also known as the serirs. The largest desert of the world also has the wonderful shaped rock strewn plateaus, which are generally known as the hammadas.

The literal meaning of the name sahara is the personality or the thing that is carrying a strong image or things over it, along with this, it is a bit red in colour. This largest desert of the world is also considered as one of the best places to visit.
