How to Check Ink Levels on Your Brother Printer

Whether it's ink or toner, every printer's supply will deplete with time. And one or more of your printer's cartridges will need to be replaced at some point. Brother printers are noted for their dependability and cost-effective consumable use.

Different colours will fade more quickly depending on what you're printing. In this post, we'll show you how to remain ahead of the game by monitoring the ink levels in your Brother printer.

How can you tell if your ink cartridge is low?

Not every printer will be as straightforward about it, but one of the things we appreciate about Brother printers, in particular, is how clear their displays are, making it easy to understand what's going on. When the levels in one or more of your Brother printer's cartridges get low, an LCD panel will pop up with a notification.

However, you may have arrived here after noticing some of the telltale symptoms that your printer cartridges are running low. That is to say, you may have observed some patchiness or off-colors without your printer alerting you.

It's critical that you check your ink levels if you haven't already been notified that they are running low. Because these symptoms could be a sign of low ink levels or a sign that something is wrong with your printer.

Checking your printer ink levels manually

There are two ways to manually check the ink levels on your Brother printer without actually opening it, depending on whether your printer has a touch screen or not.

For regular screens:

  1. Press the 'Menu’ button.
  2. Press either 'Up’ or 'Down’ until you get to "Ink" or "Ink Management". Press 'OK’.
  3. Press either 'Up’ or "Down" until you reach "Ink Volume".
  4. There you’ll see how each cartridge is fairing. Press 'Exit’ or 'Stop’ to back out.

For touch screens:

  1. Press either the "Left" or "Right" arrow keys until "Ink" is displayed.
  2. Press the image with the row of colours.
  3. Press 'Up’ or "Down" until you reach "Ink Volume". Press 'Ink Volume'.
  4. There you will see how much ink each cartridge has left.
  5. Press 'Stop’ or 'Exit’ to resume normal.
