You don't require a four-wheeler to make it to the top as there were plenty sedans doing the climb with us, but make sure to have a full tank. Out Ford Explorer took us up quite comfortably.

Jabal Al Jais in Ras Al Khaimah, which is one of the seven Emirates in the UAE which is situated at 1,650m high and can be an excellent day trip with your family dubai desert safari. The trip from Dubai is about 1 hour and half and when you begin the climb, you'll take around one hour to get to the top. You don't require a four-wheeler to make it to the top as there were plenty sedans doing the climb with us, but make sure to have a full tank. Out Ford Explorer took us up quite comfortably.

The hairpin-like bends that are sharp and the winding roads might cause you to get a little nervous if you're unused to these kinds of things However, there are plenty of places where you can stop for a break, breathe in pure mountain air, and do some great photography. You'll spot plenty of mountain goats and they're accustomed to the sight of human beings, as evident through their jovial behavior.

The road will eventually come to an end just before the summit and you're free to tackle the remainder of the climb on the foot. It is possible to take the unbeaten path up the steep mountainside or the well traveled road if less adventurous. We didn't climb to the top this time around, but will plan to do so in the winter months to take on the snow and enjoy the fresh winter air. It's been a long time since we pulled out our winter coats!

Jabal Jais is being developed to become a tourist attraction. Roads are being constructed all the way to the top and could take a while to complete. There's a bathroom at the top as well as an enticing tea shop where you can get hot tea and coffee cold drinks, biscuits and water. If it's the weekend, prepare to face an influx of people and a long wait for your hot cuppa. Make sure to pack your own in a flask and include some food and a picnic mat.

Where better to enjoy an outdoor picnic? The drive will leave you hungry. Although the mountains are rugged with not a spot of green anywhere but the views are stunning. In winter, it snows, hails and temperatures can drop to sub-zero. If you're in the UAE go to the country both in summer and winter. We went last week (mid-March) and temperatures dropped to about 15 degrees at the top. It was 20°C at the base of the mountains.

Put on sturdy shoes and wear a jacket. The wind chill level right up to April can cause it to be quite cold. You'll be enthralled by the journey and will love the photos you snap. Make sure you take that group shot or selfie with the majestic mountains in the background as evidence that you are at the top in the UAE.
