  • Many QuickBooks Desktop versions can be set up on the system simultaneously. For example, Premier 2018 can be used with Premier 2019. However, if one is using Accountant edition, only open Premier and Enterprise files from the same version (year).
  • The installation files for QuickBooks Desktop Pro and Premier are the same. As a result, Pro and Premier cannot be installed on the same computer in the same version (year). Nevertheless, you can set up other versions, like Pro 2018 and Premier 2019.
  • You can set up QuickBooks Desktop Pro or Premier alongside Enterprise in the same edition.
  • Only one industry-specific edition can be installed on each version of QuickBooks Desktop. 
  • QuickBooks Desktop Accountant is a standalone industry-specific edition. It can be used with QuickBooks Desktop Premier 2018 Retail or Premier 2018 Contractor, but not with both simultaneously. If you're an accountant, you should switch to any other industry-specific editions of QuickBooks Desktop using the Accountant edition.
  • It is not feasible to combine and match multiple regional editions and versions of QuickBooks. 

Steps to install multiple QuickBooks Desktop versions on one computer

Perform the steps below to set up multiple QB versions on the same system.

  • If you set up a multi-user network, click “I'll be using…” option or “I will NOT be using” option.

  • To prevent data loss, create unique installation folders for every QuickBooks version and edition.
  • Go to Upgrade or Change Installation Location, then click Change the install location.
  • After that hit a click on Browse, then right-click, then select New Folder. 
  • Now, select this folder to install QuickBooks and then set it up.
  • Do the same for every QuickBooks version. But every QB version should have a unique folder.
  • Once the installation of the different versions of QuickBooks is complete on the computer, the user should follow up by updating QuickBooks by heading to the Help tab and choosing Update QuickBooks Desktop option.
