As we all know, air conditioners are one of the basic requirements in the summer season, and in warm months our air conditioners are in heavy use that’s why it is very important to maintain them properly. There are many things which you can do to maintain your air conditioner without calling a technician. If you are a homeowner and want to know home ac maintenance tips then you are at the right place, in this article, we are going to talk about some easy steps by following which you can make an air conditioner maintenance Checklist

AC Maintenance Checklist:

1. Replace Air Filter:

If you want proper functioning of your air conditioner then you should replace your air conditioner every 3 months, but if you use thinner, or non-pleated air filters (such as plastic or fiberglass) then you should change your air filters every month. You can replace an old filter with a new one very easily, firstly turn off the AC then open the filter access panel, and then carefully replace the old filter with the new one.

2. AC Fan And Blower Maintenance:

Friends, the blower is nothing but a fan that blows air throughout your home. The blower of an air conditioner is able to move large amounts of air in the house. For better functioning of air conditioner, you should inspect your AC blower at regular intervals of time. Firstly, cut off the power to your AC unit, then open the blower access panel, and then check the fan and motor of the air conditioner. If the fan and blower have debris and dust then clean it, and ensure that the motor and fan should not vibrate from their actual position.

3. Ducts Must Be Clean:

Poor ducting and improper insulation put pressure on the unit. If the ducts are not clean, it reduces its efficiency and can even wear out the compressor. The size of the ducting should be sufficient and the distance between the outdoor and indoor units should be correct. This helps in preventing major AC repair expenses that can be caused due to the damage of the compressor.

4. AC Drain Line And Drain Pan Maintenance:

If you do not maintain your AC drain line and the drain pan properly then it will negatively impact the functioning of your air conditioner in the long run. You should clean the drain pan and drain line at regular intervals. To clean the drain pan you should clean all the standing water and debris present on it and then expose it in the sun rays for 20 to 30 minutes so that your drain pan is completely dry, and to clean the ac drain line you can use a flexible drain brush which is easily available in the market.

5. Check Copper Pipes:

The copper pipes should be kept short with the least amount of bends. Make sure there should be no leakage in the pipes. To avoid sagging of the pipes, support the pipes after every four feet, and inspect them at regular intervals this will help in home AC Maintenance.

6. Check Thermostat For Proper Operation:

There are many air conditioners that have variable speed fans, if you also have that air conditioner then it is very important to check that all the speeds of the fans are working properly or not. And if you want to test your thermostat then compare the temperature reading of the thermostat with a portable room temperature reader, if both are the same then it means that your thermostat is working properly otherwise it needs service.

7. Inspect Area Around Air Intake:

It is very important to inspect the area around air intake at least twice in a year. Usually, water is stored around air handlers due to which the mold will grow there. If the mold grows around the air intake area then it simply means that spores could be sucked into the ventilation system and bring the dirty air inside your home or office. That's why it is very important to inspect the area around the intake twice a year.

These all are the simple tips that will help you in home AC maintenance.
